After his phone calls with Putin and Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump made the following statement.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin made it a condition that Ukraine must agree to territorial concessions for a ceasefire to be achieved, the initially positive tone following Trump’s phone calls seems to have shifted again. Otherwise, would such words have been spoken?

“This is not my war. It’s not our war. It got on our hands. At some point, I’ll step aside, but I don’t want to declare that red line now and make the situation even worse. The situation is bad enough.”

Trump’s remark that “The situation is bad enough” clearly shows how difficult — even nearly impossible — it has become to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war.

So, what’s next? Will this war go on forever?

Beyond the lands, cities, towns, and villages Ukraine has lost in the war, millions of people — young and old, men, women, and children — have been forced to leave their homeland and live under serious risks in foreign lands. Those who remain are struggling to survive amidst a brutal war.

The unanswered question… What happens now?
