In a striking development, just hours before the expiration of his ultimatum, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a five-day delay to the threatened military action against Iran’s energy infrastructure. The ultimatum had warned of strikes if the Strait of Hormuz was not fully reopened within 48 hours.
Trump made the announcement via Truth Social, stating:
“I have instructed that any military action against energy facilities and infrastructure in Iran be postponed for five days. Over the past two days, we have held very good and productive discussions regarding a full and definitive resolution of hostilities in the Middle East.”
Officials emphasized that ongoing diplomatic efforts played a key role in the decision to revise military plans.
Following the delay, attention has shifted to diplomatic engagements expected to take place during this five-day window. It remains uncertain whether the move could pave the way for a lasting ceasefire or a renewed negotiation process. Iran’s response—particularly regarding restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz—is being closely watched.
Earlier, Iran had responded defiantly to Trump’s ultimatum, declaring “We are ready,” and warning that it would target energy facilities and foreign bases in the region, including those of countries supporting the United States and Israel.
