A new legal amendment introduces severe penalties for individuals who attempt to obtain citizenship using fake language certificates or through fraudulent means.
Germany’s coalition government has submitted a draft bill to the Interior Committee, aiming to tighten sections of the citizenship law. The proposal will be put to a vote in the Bundestag before becoming law.
The new regulation specifically targets individuals who try to secure a German passport with falsified language certificates, imposing significantly tougher sanctions.
According to the draft, the right to citizenship must be granted only to those who fully meet all legal requirements. Those who violate these conditions are described as having “closed the path to citizenship with their own actions.”
An official issued a stern warning:
“Citizenship should no longer be seen as an easy prize. Those who attempt to obtain this right through criminal means will face serious consequences.”
