If a new proposal submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament is approved, drivers over the age of 75 will be prohibited from driving between cities.
Under the proposed regulation, elderly drivers caught driving on intercity routes will first face a fine of 3,400 hryvnias. In cases of repeated violations, their driver’s licenses will be permanently revoked.
Earlier this year, Spain—which had been preparing to introduce the first-ever maximum driving age in European Union history—backtracked on the plan following public backlash and protests.
📌 In Turkey, however, there is no age restriction for drivers under the current Highways Traffic Regulation. The only requirement is that drivers aged 80 and above undergo a medical examination every two years. If they pass the necessary tests, they may continue to drive between cities regardless of age.
As reflexes naturally decline with age, older drivers’ ability to respond quickly to sudden situations diminishes, which can increase the risk of fatal accidents.
