The legendary French actress who left an indelible mark on cinema, Brigitte Bardot, has died at the age of 91.

Bardot had been receiving treatment at a hospital in the city of Toulon since November. Her death was announced with deep sorrow by the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which bears her name. In its statement, the foundation said:

“A world-famous actress and singer chose to leave behind her prestigious career and devote her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation.”

Her Life:

Raised in Paris’s bourgeois circles, Brigitte Bardot initially aspired to become a singer and dancer and was discovered as a model at the age of 15.

She became an indispensable figure of French culture and quickly rose to iconic status following her first film role in Le Trou Normand, released in 1952.

Bardot gained international fame with And God Created Woman, directed by her then-husband Roger Vadim. The film sparked widespread controversy, particularly due to its nude dance scenes.

Frequently in the headlines for her turbulent private life, Bardot later reflected critically on her early acting years, saying:

“It was shameful to have acted so badly. I suffered a great deal at the beginning. I was truly treated as someone worth less than nothing.”
