PISA Founder: “Artificial Intelligence Is Eroding Skills”

Andreas Schleicher, the founder of the world-renowned PISA assessments, has warned that “artificial intelligence is eroding essential skills.”
Schleicher described the current picture of student performance in Europe as “truly concerning.”
He said the results indicate that young people are losing fundamental skills that are particularly important for navigating the times we live in.
The standardized 2025 assessment, involving 15-year-old students across 91 countries, found that reading and mathematics performance in OECD countries had fallen to the lowest levels on record.
The PISA assessment measures students’ ability to apply their skills in reading, mathematics and science to problems they encounter in real life.
