Merz: "We Want to See Türkiye in the EU"

During his visit to Türkiye, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Following their meeting, the two leaders held a joint press conference.
Merz stated:
"Both I and the Federal Government want to see Türkiye in the EU. I proposed a strategic dialogue on this matter. We wish to restart this dialogue."
President Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s determination toward full EU membership, saying:
"If the firm will demonstrated by Türkiye receives the recognition it deserves from the Union, we can make significant progress in a very short time."
Chancellor Merz also emphasized that Türkiye is an indispensable partner in security policies and said they plan to pursue closer cooperation.
