UK Signals Possible Return to the EU

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said that Brexit has done more harm than good, adding that the United Kingdom could rejoin the European Union.

In an interview with the BBC, Burnham was asked whether he wanted the UK to rejoin the EU.

He responded:

“I wrote in a book that I would like to see the UK rejoin the EU. So there is no point in saying otherwise now. I believe that around 60% of the British public would agree with this statement as well. The question, then, is: what are we going to do about it? I am not adopting the usual political approach here. I am being honest about confronting this issue and offering people options they can examine and evaluate.”

Stressing that several different options should be considered, the Prime Minister said the issue should not be left unresolved.

“We could rejoin the EU before joining the customs union. We need to examine what is feasible and weigh the pros and cons of each option. My point is that it is not enough to simply leave this question hanging. We need to be clear about where we want the UK to be heading over the next 10 years.”
