The European Commission announced that the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will digitally record the entry and exit of visitors from non-EU countries, will be implemented gradually over a six-month period and will then be fully operational at all border crossing points.
The EES will be introduced step by step to allow border officials, the transportation sector, and travelers to adapt to the new procedures.
With the EES, the entries and exits of non-EU nationals visiting an EU member state for short stays, along with their passport information, fingerprints, and facial images, will be digitally recorded. This new system will monitor irregular entries into the Schengen Area.
