Heavy snow and ice paralyze Germany

Snowfall intensifying across Germany, along with widespread ice and freezing rain, is severely disrupting daily life nationwide.

Transport disruptions have been reported in many federal states, prompting authorities to urge the public to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. The situation is described as particularly critical in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

On the A3 motorway in the Westerwald region, traffic stretched for kilometers, with drivers reportedly able to pass through the affected section only at walking speed. Winter conditions have not only impacted private travel but have also significantly disrupted public transportation services.

Authorities warned that weather conditions could deteriorate further in some areas and advised residents to refrain from unnecessary journeys. Public transport users were also urged to closely monitor service cancellations and delays.

Meteorological services report that the risk of icy conditions and freezing rain may continue to affect certain regions in the coming days.
