Trump stated that Putin must agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine within 10 to 12 days or face heavy sanctions.

Russia responded strongly to this ultimatum, interpreting it as a veiled threat of war.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said Trump’s ultimatums not only escalated regional tensions but also posed a threat to U.S. national security.

“This is a step toward war with the U.S., not Ukraine,” Medvedev said, warning Trump not to treat Russia like Iran or Israel. He urged him not to follow the path of his predecessor Joe Biden, emphasizing that Russia would not back down under the politics of ultimatums.

At a press conference held in Scotland, President Trump said he was disappointed with Putin and that there was “no reason to wait any longer” as no progress toward peace had been made.

Two weeks ago, Trump had given President Vladimir Putin a 50-day deadline to end the war, warning that otherwise Russia would face sanctions and severe tariffs.
