Europe’s most powerful and the world’s fourth-fastest supercomputer, Jupiter, has begun operations in Germany. The system will be used for climate and weather modeling.
The European Commission announced that the new supercomputer, inaugurated in the city of Jülich, is the first European system to surpass the threshold of 10^18 operations per second.
It was noted that Jupiter can perform more than one quintillion calculations per second, combining performance with sustainability.
The computer will also support the development and application of artificial intelligence solutions, contributing to the future “AI factory” that will train cutting-edge large language models for generative AI and next-generation digital technologies.
