Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez rejected Trump and NATO by stating, “My priority is pensioners and workers.”
At the summit in the Netherlands, NATO members agreed to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP. However, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez defended the current level of 2.1% and remained hesitant about the new target. Spain found the increase to be "an inconsistency that would put the social security and education budgets at risk."
Donald Trump responded by saying, “Spain is the only country showing resistance. We’ll make them pay double in trade. Let that be clear.”
📌 Pedro Sánchez, the only leader who opposed the 5% increase, appeared in the NATO family photo at the very front and far right—standing somewhat apart from the others.
