A powerful heatwave is gripping Southern Europe, pushing temperatures above 40°C in countries like Italy, Spain, Greece, and Portugal, triggering extreme weather alerts and wildfire warnings.
In Portugal, two-thirds of the country is under high alert due to extreme heat and wildfire risk. Lisbon is expected to surpass 42°C.
Italy is experiencing record-breaking temperatures in Lazio, Tuscany, Calabria, Puglia, and Umbria. Tourists in Venice, Rome, Milan, and Naples are seen seeking shade, drinking from public fountains, and using umbrellas to cope.
Spain's Seville and surrounding southern and central regions are reporting highs of 42°C.
France is also on alert, with Paris and other cities expected to reach or exceed 40°C starting tomorrow.
In Greece, extreme weather has reignited wildfire alerts. A major blaze erupted south of Athens, forcing evacuations and road closures near the ancient Temple of Poseidon. Strong winds fanned the flames, damaging homes.
Authorities across the region continue to warn about health risks, fire hazards, and the impact of climate-driven extreme heat.
