A Rise in Vehicle Attacks in Germany
On February 13 in Munich, a vehicle plowed into a workers’ union protest. Two of the 39 injured later died. Police arrested a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker; prosecutors stated the suspect had an extremist Islamist motive.
On December 20, 2024, in Magdeburg, a vehicle attack on a Christmas market left at least five people dead and over 200 injured.
In June 2022, a 29-year-old man drove into a crowd in Berlin, killing one and injuring dozens. He was later identified as a German of Armenian descent.
Germany now faces a troubling question: Why are vehicle attacks on the rise—and when will they end?
