Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed growing global tensions during a session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), making critical remarks about the current geopolitical situation.
When asked why he is concerned, Putin replied:
"Especially considering the military conflict in Ukraine, the developments in the Middle East, and the evolving situation in Iran along with its potential risks."
Regarding Israel’s threats to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Putin stated:
"I hope it remains only rhetoric."
He continued:
"On one side, Iran defends its right to enrich uranium and develop peaceful nuclear energy. On the other, Israel insists on securing its own national safety. Acceptable solutions can be found for both countries. The Global South and regional actors can help facilitate a resolution. In my opinion, a solution is possible."
"We have proposed some ideas for resolving the issue. We are not trying to act as mediators, just offering suggestions. If these ideas are acceptable to both sides, we would welcome that. We want our ideas to be implemented. We support Iran’s legitimate struggle for its interests, including in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. This has always been our approach, and our stance has not changed."
