Plane Crash in India: 242 Dead

An Air India flight en route to London crashed and exploded shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, in western India.

Air India confirmed that the plane was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese passengers.

Indian police stated that based on initial investigations, they do not expect any survivors from the crash.

The aircraft crashed near Ahmedabad Airport and struck a residential complex housing doctors. Police sources reported that there were fatalities among people in the impacted area as well. Several doctors were rescued from their homes.

Search and recovery operations are ongoing in the crash zone. Over 100 bodies have already been taken to hospitals.

Rescue teams are working to extinguish the fire. The scene is described as horrific.
