Migrants board a small boat from the Gravelines coast of France, attempting to cross the English Channel to reach the United Kingdom. The majority succeed.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are working on a deal to return some of the migrants who cross the Channel in small boats back to France.

For every returned migrant, France will send one asylum seeker to the UK — likely someone with family ties to Britain.

The deal, referred to as ‘One In, One Out’, has not yet been confirmed, but it is reported that around 50 migrants could be transferred in both directions during the initial pilot phase.

Migrants concerned about this deal say they will “try again and again” to reach the UK.
