Number of Turks Gaining German Citizenship More Than Doubles

The newly granted right to dual citizenship accelerated the transition of Turks to German citizenship.
In Germany, the number of Turks who were naturalized in 2024 increased by 110% compared to 2023, reaching 22,525. With this increase, Turks became the second-largest group to acquire citizenship in Germany, following Syrians.
According to data published by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of Turks who acquired German citizenship in 2023 was announced as 10,735.
The 110% increase in 2024 was recorded as the highest absolute increase among the groups naturalized in Germany.
In 2024, a total of 291,955 foreign nationals acquired German citizenship, with an overall increase rate of 46%.
Among those naturalized in 2024, Syrians ranked first with 83,150 people. Turks ranked second with 22,525 people, Iraqis were fourth with 13,545, and Russians fifth with 12,980.
