After the Power Grid, Now Mobile Networks Collapse in Spain

The emergency/assistance line 112 has been disabled. Mobile voice services were partially disrupted.

Due to a technical malfunction in the telecommunications infrastructure owned by Telefónica, serious communication issues were experienced nationwide — particularly on landlines.

The outages began around midnight at 2:00 AM between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Telefónica issued the following statement:

“We carried out some updates on the network. These updates affected the services of some companies. We are working to resolve the issue.”

In regions such as the Basque Country, Valencia, Andalusia, Aragon, and Extremadura, access to the emergency line 112 could not be established. After 8.5 hours, services began to gradually return to normal as of 10:30 AM local time.

72% of users reported a complete service outage, 18% reported signal loss, and 10% reported total access blockage.

Following the major power outages that paralyzed much of Spain in recent weeks, the subsequent mobile disruptions have raised concerns.
