According to data from Germany’s Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), approximately 1.7 million people migrated to Germany in 2024.

📌 The number of people coming from Turkey dropped by 53%, falling to 41,000.

📌 The number of migrants from Afghanistan decreased by 32%, down to 33,000.

📌 Arrivals from Syria fell by 25%, reaching 75,000.

In the same year, 1.3 million people left Germany.

For the first time since 2008, Germany recorded a negative migration balance with EU countries—meaning more people moved from Germany to EU countries than the other way around. This shift is seen as significant in terms of how Germany’s economic and social conditions are influencing migration preferences.
