German elevator manufacturer Böcker turned an unbelievable event—the use of one of its ladders in the Louvre Museum heist—into a brilliant marketing opportunity filled with sharp humor.
“The Böcker Agilo carries treasures weighing up to 400 kg at a speed of 42 meters per minute — as quiet as a whisper.”
The family-owned company, based in North Rhine-Westphalia, decided to respond just one day after learning that no one was injured in the heist. With a witty social media post, Böcker transformed the theft into a viral marketing moment.
The post featured the now-infamous furniture lift stretching up to a balcony outside the Apollo Gallery, along with the slogan:
“When you need to move fast…Böcker Agilo carries treasures weighing up to 400 kg at a speed of 42 meters per minute — as quiet as a whisper.”
Managing Director Alexander Böcker explained their bold approach:
“We decided to add a bit of humor to the situation. It was an opportunity to draw some attention to our company using the world’s most famous and most visited museum.”
Online reactions to the cheeky ad were overwhelmingly positive — with comments ranging from “This might be the best ad I’ve seen this year!” to “A brilliant marketing move.”
One user even joked, “Your messages just took first place!”
Böcker later confirmed that the lift had been sold years ago to a French rental company, from which the thieves had “borrowed” it last week under the pretense of a fake exhibition.
