Life Expectancy in Europe Rises: Now at 81.7 Years

According to data from the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) on average life expectancy in EU countries in 2024, the average lifespan in the EU rose by 0.3 years compared to 2023, reaching 81.7 years.
The countries with the highest average life expectancy were Italy and Sweden, both at 84.1 years.
Spain: 84 years
Luxembourg: 83.5 years
Malta: 83.3 years
France: 83.1 years
Germany: 81.5 years
At the lower end of the table, Bulgaria recorded the shortest average lifespan at 75.9 years, followed by Romania (76.6 years) and Latvia (76.7 years).
