Jaguar Land Rover has extended its decision to suspend production until October 1, following a crippling cyberattack.

Hackers seized control of the UK-based automaker’s IT systems, paralyzing assembly lines for weeks at factories producing Range Rover, Land Rover, Defender, and Jaguar models. The disruption has forced executives and thousands of factory workers to be temporarily sent home.

The shutdown at the carmaker — known worldwide for its highly popular models — has already cost an estimated 50,000 vehicles in lost production and billions of pounds in potential sales. Beyond that, the halt is putting immense financial strain on the company’s suppliers, with the risk of driving some into bankruptcy.
