Zelensky Says “Yes” to Putin’s Offer of Unconditional Talks in Istanbul: “There’s No Point in Killing for One More Day. Ukraine Is Ready. First Step: Ceasefire”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded via social media to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement: “We are declaring a ceasefire in Ukraine for the third time. Let’s begin unconditional direct talks in Istanbul on May 15.”

“It is a positive sign that the Russians are finally beginning to consider ending the war,” Zelensky stated. “The entire world has been waiting for this for a very long time. The first step to truly ending any war is a ceasefire.”

He continued:“There’s no point in killing for even one more day. We expect Russia to confirm a full, lasting, and reliable ceasefire starting tomorrow, May 12. Ukraine is ready for talks.”

Now, all eyes are on the expected Erdoğan–Putin meeting. The Russia–Ukraine summit, planned for May 15 in Istanbul, is set to be a critical turning point in negotiations aimed at ending a war now entering its fourth year.
