GPT-5: The Version That Takes ChatGPT to Doctoral Level

“Smarter, faster, and more useful”

OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman said the company’s new model marks the beginning of a new era for ChatGPT.

“I think having something like GPT-5 is something that could never have been imagined before in human history,” Altman said.

He added that OpenAI’s new model will be less prone to hallucinations — the phenomenon where large language models generate fabricated information — and less misleading overall.

What can GPT-5 do?

OpenAI highlighted GPT-5’s ability to create entire pieces of software and to demonstrate stronger reasoning skills, with answers showing clear process, logic, and inference.

The company claims it has been trained to be more honest, to provide more accurate responses to users, and to feel more human overall.

According to Altman, the model is “significantly better” than its predecessors.

“GPT-3 felt like talking to a high school student… GPT-4 felt like talking to a college student. GPT-5 was the first time it felt like I was speaking to an expert on any subject — even at a doctoral level,” he said.
