In Germany, under the leadership of Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Chairman Friedrich Merz, Social Democratic Party (SPD) Co-Chairs Saskia Esken and Lars Klingbeil, and Christian Social Union (CSU) Chairman Markus Söder, a 144-page coalition agreement titled “Responsibility for Germany” was signed.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Berlin, CDU leader and future Chancellor Friedrich Merz promised that the new coalition would start working in a planned and strong manner from the very first day.
"The coalition agreement we are signing today shows exactly this will to tackle issues in a serious, focused, and sensitive manner. These will be achieved through reforms and investments. Bringing this coalition to success is an almost historic obligation. We are determined to do this together. I am very confident that from tomorrow on we will manage our country in a strong, planned, and reliable way."
SPD Co-Chair Lars Klingbeil, who will serve as Deputy Chancellor in the government, stated: "Germany is a country of immigration. Germany needs fewer administrators and more facilitators." Meanwhile, CSU leader Markus Söder said: "Not everything will happen overnight. Nevertheless, the implementation of the decisions arising from the coalition agreement must lead to a new German pace. It's time for a new optimism."
