German Citizenship Revoked Over Fraudulent Tests

Citizenships obtained through falsified and manipulated test results will be annulled, German authorities have announced.

An Interior Ministry spokesperson stated: “Manipulated language certificates, tampered citizenship tests, and exams taken by proxies are known to the police. Penalties will be imposed, up to and including the revocation of citizenship.”

In Hamburg, officials confirmed that investigations are underway into fake language certificates and altered or copied citizenship tests.

Authorities said that the use of fraudulent documents to obtain German citizenship has become a nationwide issue. Police and expert teams are conducting investigations with great scrutiny. Those found guilty of fraud will have their German citizenship revoked.

To obtain German citizenship, applicants must not only be able to financially support themselves but also pass both a citizenship and a language test.
