A massive wildfire in southern France has destroyed homes, forced thousands to evacuate, and left one person dead while another remains missing.

The blaze broke out on Tuesday near the village of La Ribaute in the Aude region, scorching more than 13,000 hectares — an area larger than Paris — making it the country’s largest wildfire of the year.

At least 25 homes have been destroyed, and over 2,500 households are without electricity.

More than 1,800 firefighters, supported by 500 vehicles, have been deployed to battle the flames.
