Bürgergeld Shock: 1.2 Million People in Germany Have Lived on State Aid for 28 Years

In Germany, 1.2 million people have been living on the state welfare known as Bürgergeld for a full 28 years. The total number of recipients is around 6 million.
According to data comparisons by the Federal Employment Agency, 1,187,000 people have had no employment history since 1997.
Including immigrants to Germany, nearly 6 million people live off this aid.
How much do they receive?
Single individuals receive €563 per month.
For children, monthly payments are:
Ages 0–6: €357
Ages 7–14: €390
Ages 15–18: €471
In 2026, there will be no increase for the 5.6 million Bürgergeld recipients.
