The world press reported that the Trump-Putin summit failed to deliver expectations and no agreement was reached.
The American newspaper The New York Times ran the headline: "Trump rolled out the red carpet for Putin, yet still failed to reach a peace deal."
"After the red carpet and the display of aircraft, he left the summit empty-handed except for another meeting with Putin," the paper wrote.
The Washington Post reported that Trump and Putin ended the summit early, canceling a dinner plan after failing to reach an agreement.
The British newspaper The Telegraph used the headline: "Putin and Trump failed to reach agreement on peace in Ukraine."
The Independent quoted U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks during the press conference after the summit:
"A deal isn’t done until a deal is done."
It was noted that while the two leaders agreed on the war, they failed to find common ground for a ceasefire.
BBC headlined: "No ceasefire, no deal," and commented:"Trump, who likes to present himself as a peace broker and dealmaker, seems to have left Alaska with neither. The failure to reach an agreement will damage his prestige both domestically and internationally."
Attention was also drawn to the fact that the two leaders did not take any questions after the press conference.
U.S. President Trump’s assessment:"The meeting was successful, but there was no deal."
The president had previously stated that the chance of failure at the summit was 25 percent.
