In a survey conducted by Kariyer.net with over 1,500 employees residing in Istanbul and its surroundings, it was revealed that a significant portion of workers in the Marmara region are planning to move due to earthquake concerns.

Kariyer.net’s research showed that 57% of employees in Istanbul feel anxious after the earthquake, while only 7% feel safe.

The proportion of those considering moving out of Istanbul because of earthquake anxiety is 35%, whereas approximately 33% of those not considering moving said they trust the infrastructure of their current region and buildings.

Among participants, 38% believe their workplace is earthquake-resistant, 17% think their workplace is not resistant, and nearly 40% are not sure.

More than 55% of respondents found their companies’ post-earthquake measures insufficient, with most of those considering the measures inadequate citing a lack of sustainability in the solutions.

Disaster training or seminars were among the most requested steps by employees. Seventy-six percent of participants reported that no training or seminar was provided before the earthquake, 60% said they need such training, and over 65% stated that their company does not have a disaster plan.

Approximately 80% of employees in the Marmara region carry anxiety due to earthquakes. Eighty-two percent said they work on-site full-time, while more than 70% expressed a preference for a hybrid model.

The combination of Istanbul’s cost of living and earthquake risk is increasing the importance of remote work for employees.
