30 European Countries Open Their Doors to Students: Work Permits Granted

Students who wish to continue their education in Europe can shape their future with their YKS scores. Many students aiming to both study and work abroad are now turning their attention to Europe. A total of 30 European countries allow international students to both study and work, while 15 of them don’t even require a work permit.


European countries that do not require a work permit for non-EU students:

United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania


European countries that do require a work permit for non-EU students:

Spain, Netherlands, Slovenia, Norway, Malta, Luxembourg, Iceland


Working conditions for students in Europe:

Students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week. In some countries, students are permitted to work full-time during summer holidays.


Highest hourly wages:

  • Luxembourg: €18

  • Iceland: €16–18


Average monthly income for students:

  • United Kingdom: £977

  • Germany & Spain: €1,110

  • France: €900

  • Italy: €600–750
