The research, conducted by a walking tour company, is based on approximately 500,000 verified user reviews for 3,600 tours organized in more than 800 cities over the past 12 months.

Numerous European cities, ranging from Rome to Madrid and Prague to Lisbon, ranked at the top of the "world's best walking cities" list for 2026.

Here are the top 10 cities featured on the world's best walking cities list:

1. Rome, Italy

Topping the list with nearly 2,800 years of history, Rome stands out with its narrow cobblestone streets and historical landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Vatican.

2. Madrid, Spain

Spain's capital, Madrid, became one of the most preferred destinations for visitors wishing to explore on foot, thanks to El Retiro Park, Gran Vía, and the Prado Museum.

3. Budapest, Hungary

Known as the "Pearl of the Danube," Budapest ranked third on the list with its historic Parliament Building, thermal baths, and architecture along the banks of the Danube.
