Nine of the World’s 10 Most Powerful Passports Are European

Europe is the only region that combines exceptional global mobility with some of the highest standards of living in the world.

Sweden ranks first, followed by Switzerland and Finland.

The Global Passport Index evaluates passports not only by the number of destinations accessible without a visa, but also by their investment attractiveness and overall quality of life.

The methodology assigns a 50% weighting to global mobility, 25% to investment attractiveness, and 25% to quality of life.

The ranking, compiled by Global Citizen Solutions (GCS), assesses factors including the tax environment, innovation, economic competitiveness, healthcare, safety, climate, and social infrastructure.

Sweden secured the top overall position by ranking 11th in global mobility, 9th in investment, and 2nd in quality of life.

Second place went to Switzerland, which ranked 7th for visa-free travel, 2nd for investment, and 36th for quality of life.

Finland placed third, ranking 4th in global mobility, 28th in investment, and 1st in quality of life.

Germany finished fourth, ranking 15th in visa-free mobility, 20th in investment, and 3rd in quality of life.

The Netherlands and Denmark shared fifth place.

They were followed by Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Norway, while Singapore—the only non-European country in the top 10 and the world's leading nation for visa-free travel—ranked 10th overall.

Among the G7 countries, the United States recorded the sharpest decline over the past five years. After topping the Global Passport Index in 2021 with its highest-ever composite score of 96.45, the U.S. has fallen to 12th place this year.
