Germany saw an increase of over 90,000 naturalizations from 2023 to 2024. With 300,000 people acquiring citizenship in 2024, and 2025 data not yet released, the trend signals continued growth nationwide.
🔶️ In the capital, Berlin, more than 39,000 people received German passports in 2025. This figure is nearly double the 22,000 recorded the previous year and roughly four times the 9,000 in 2023.
🔶️ A similar trend is observed in Hamburg, where the number rose from 7,530 in 2023 to 10,000 in 2024, and 11,500 in 2025.
In 2024, Syrians topped the list of new German citizens, exceeding 83,000. They were followed by Turks in second place and Iraqis in third, with Russia and Afghanistan next.
A further rise in the number of people granted German passports in 2025 is widely expected.
