Historic bomb alert in Paris!

Thousands of residents in Paris were evacuated after a bomb dating back to World War II was discovered.

The device was found on 10 April during construction work on Rue des Champarons. The area was secured, and people within a 900-metre zone were evacuated while preparations were made to remove the bomb.

A total of 800 police officers were deployed to secure the evacuation zone. Emergency alerts were sent to local residents, instructing them to leave the area and informing them they would not be allowed to return until the operation was completed.

An initial attempt to remove the detonator failed, after which authorities carried out a controlled explosion on site to destroy the historic munition. The evacuation order was then lifted, and residents returned home on Sunday.

Although 86 years have passed since the outbreak of World War II, unexploded bombs are still regularly discovered across Europe. Such finds in city centres, particularly during excavation work for new building foundations, can pose greater risks because of dense nearby populations.
