Cheating with the use of artificial intelligence has reached record levels at universities. In Norway, 190 AI-related cheating cases were identified in 2025 at the country’s ten largest universities—nearly double the 95 cases reported the previous year.
Norway’s Minister of Education, Aasland, called on universities to reform their examination systems. He recommended reducing take-home exams and increasing assessments conducted on campus or through oral examinations.
🔺️A shared global challenge:
Artificial intelligence is creating difficulties for universities worldwide.
In a 2024 survey conducted by Study.com, 89 percent of university students said they used ChatGPT for their assignments.
Experts emphasize that universities should focus not only on detecting the misuse of artificial intelligence, but also on developing assessment and learning models that encourage academic honesty. They recommend placing understanding, ethical use, and clear guidelines at the center of education.
