AI Adoption Rapidly Increasing in Germany

Usage Rate Rises from 27% to 41%


The Munich-based ifo Institute for Economic Research has released the results of its latest survey on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in German companies.


AI use in business processes continues to grow significantly. Nearly one-fifth (18.9%) of German companies that have not yet adopted AI plan to implement it in the coming months.


⭐️ Which Sectors Lead AI Usage?

  • Advertising and market research: 84.3%

  • Automotive industry: 70.4%

  • Mechanical and chemical engineering: 50%

  • Manufacturing and service sectors: 40%

  • Construction sector: a dramatic increase from 7.1% to 25%


The ifo Institute highlights significant sectoral differences in AI adoption. There is also a clear correlation between company size and AI use:

  • Large companies: 56%

  • SMEs: 38%

  • Small businesses: 31%


Klaus Wohlrabe, Director of the ifo Center for Business Surveys, commented:"AI is becoming an increasingly strategic topic for companies."He emphasized that the main challenge lies in integrating AI meaningfully into existing processes.


📌 One last note:As of June 5, ifo reported that 1 in 4 companies in Germany expects layoffs within the next five years due to AI implementation.
